Eva Zeisel On Design- The Magic Language of Things, The Overlook Press

I love the way Eva Zeisel talks about design. She says, “things soothe and bathe a home with grace and provide intangible pleasures and joy”. She encourages designers to embrace beauty and fun… and the S curve, that friendly curve of nature. Eva Zeisel reminds us to use our fascination and curiosity as we create, and don’t be afraid to have fun!

  1. Hi Shannon! I’m not sure if you know how much I love Shakespeare. I’ve been wanting to give you Ophelia’s lines about flowers for awhile so here they are . . .
“There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance; pray you, love, remember; and there is pansies, that’s for thoughts . . . There’s fennel for you, and columbines, there’s rue for you, and here’s some for me, we may call it herb of grace o’ Sundays, you may wear your rue with a difference, there’s a daisy, I would give you some violets, but they wither’d all when my father died, they say a’ (he) made a good end,” Act IV Scene V

She’s raving mad at this point in the play (who could blame her?) and there’s always been a lot of speculation about to whom she is giving these various symbolic flowers and herbs. The only thing that I remember from my own research into the flowers’ meanings was that violets were related to mourning in medieval culture and to modesty in the Victorian language of flowers.
    Just thought you’d find that interesting . . .

  2. Hey Shannon, I’m sure your familiar with Judy Chicago’s Dinner Party but you may consider looking at it for reference. As you probably know each section of the dinning set was unique and individually made for the installation. This may not be available to you do to time restraints, but I am curious if you are planning on installing a full dinning set and how you feel about collaboration.
